I’ve lived most of my life surrounded by hills, mist, and the sound of water. Here in the Kandy District of Sri Lanka, waterfalls aren’t just scenic backdrops — they’re part of our everyday stories. we’d walk for hours just to sit near a waterfall and dip our feet in the cold water. Even now,it is amazing one. every time I visit one, it feels like coming home.
Many guests who stay with us often ask, “Are there any waterfalls nearby?” And every time, I smile. Because truthfully, there are so many.as your choice, Some are loud and wild, crashing down with full force, while others are soft and shy, hidden behind thick greenery or nestled in peaceful villages.


Let me take you through a few of my favorites — not just the famous ones,but some are famous but also the quiet, untouched spots where time slows down and nature takes over.

“Ratna” means gem, and it really is a jewel and the most valuable one.I remember the first time I saw Ratna Ella — we were on a family picnic, and the moment we heard the distant roar through the trees, we knew something magical was close.Yes it is true the waterfall is tall and elegant, falling through thick jungle. Local farmers still use its water for their fields. It’s not just beautiful, it’s life-giving for all



Seetha Kotuwa Ella – Where Legends FlowWaterfalls in Kandy District-


This one’s not just about nature. It’s about stories in our history. According to the Ramayana,(famous story in our history this is where Seetha bathed during her time in Lanka. The walk to the waterfall takes you through ancient ruins and dense forest.It will be amazing memory. I’ve had guests come back from this trip with wide eyes, saying they felt like they had stepped into a fairytale.



Sudugala Ella – Peace in Simplicity-Waterfalls in Kandy District


This one is quiet. Simple. No big drama, just peace. The shallow pools and soft sound of water make it the perfect place to sit,with more relaxed thinking, or do nothing at all. It’s not touristy — most people don’t even know it’s there. That’s the charm.

“Rahas” means secret.It is our local name. And yes, this one hides behind trees, deep inside a trail few people take. Some villagers believe ancient rituals were done here.

I can’t describe how beautiful this is in words alone.This is famous waterfall among people. The water falls like a wide curtain from a rocky edge,very beautiful one and everything around is just green, green, green. You’ll want to take photos,yes of course, but don’t forget to just stand and feel it.



Huluganga Ella – Power and Mist-Waterfalls in Kandy District


If you’re heading toward Bambarella, don’t miss this one. You can see it from the road itself. During the rainy season,because no more water with the dry season, it thunders down with such force that the mist will hit your face from a distance. There’s a little bridge nearby — stop there. Let the spray cool you down. It’s like nature giving you a refreshing welcome.



Hunnas Ella – The Easy Beauty-Waterfalls in Kandy District


This one’s great if you don’t want a long hike. It’s near a hotel garden and has paths and flowers all around. I often recommend it to families or elderly guests. It’s a gentle experience — a peaceful hour in nature without too much effort.
