There’s something about waterfalls that always makes me stop and stare.It is a special one in SriLanka.Always nice feeling. Or maybe it’s how each waterfall, no matter how small or big, feels alive, like it has its own story to tell.All story is very nice
In Sri Lanka, we’re blessed with waterfalls all over the island,do you know but the Kegalle District is especially rich.Can you trust this one? Did you know it has more than 56 waterfalls? Some are famous, others are hidden deep in tea estates or forests, waiting quietly for someone to discover them.But all are very beautiful Over the years, I’ve visited many of them, and today I want to share a few favorites—both the well-known and the secret ones.
Kitulgala – White Water Rafting and Eli Hatha-Secret waterfalls Kegalle
Most travelers know Kitulgala for white water rafting.This is most popular place I’ve seen the excitement on visitors’ faces as they prepare to jump into rubber boats, life jackets strapped tight, paddles ready. The Kelani River here is wild and playful,very nice tossing you up and down with every rapid.
But do you know? Kitulgala has more than just rafting. Tucked away nearby is Eli Hatha, a series of waterfalls hidden in the forest. The name means “Seven Falls,”(diya eli hatha) and if you climb patiently through the jungle, you’ll see one after another, each with its own character.Simple meaning you can see seven waterfalls
.This is super natural place. The air smelled of wet earth and wild ginger flowers,all are fresh super nature and the only sound was the steady song of falling water.It is like a symphony.I know very well. You’ll love this because it feels like stepping into another world.
Mini Maru Falls-Secret waterfalls Kegalle
Despite the name, Mini Maru Falls isn’t small at all.you can hear some danger story. The name actually comes from a local story, and like many waterfalls in Sri Lanka, legends cling to it.
When you visit first time, you cannot stop taking photos—the white water tumbling over dark rocks, framed by thick green jungle, looked almost too perfect.
Many guests tell me they love this waterfall because it feels private. Unlike the crowded ones,want stay relaxed you can often have the place to yourself.This is small suggest Sit by the pool, let your legs dangle in the cold stream, and listen. Sometimes that’s all you need.
Kakun Falls-Secret waterfalls Kegalle
Kakun Falls is one of those places you don’t just see—you feel it.It is not famous one. The water crashes down with such force that even from a distance, your shirt gets damp from the spray.Very nice feeling. When the sun hits just right, tiny rainbows form in the mist.
good news about this waterfall.The walk to Kakun Falls isn’t too hard, and along the way you pass small houses where villagers smile and wave.They are real nice people in SriLanka. If you’re lucky,i am sure, someone might offer you fresh fruit—sweet pineapple or a king coconut to quench your thirst. That’s the kind of hospitality you often find in these parts.
Windsor Forest Falls-Secret waterfalls Kegalle
The name itself—Windsor Forest Falls—already sounds can you trust this one like something out of a storybook. It’s tucked away in a lush forest, and the air here feels cooler, fresher, almost enchanted.This place only good for nature lovers. Birds dart across the trees, if you can come here early morning i think it is your good choice, you might see mist floating gently over the water.
Gorok Falls-Secret waterfalls Kegalle
This is special place.Gorok Falls isn’t one of the tallest, but it has a rugged beauty that always stays with me. The rocks are jagged and dark, you can see the water flows fast, breaking into silver threads as it falls. Many locals come here to wash, swim, or simply cool down after work in the fields.This one

Eli Hatha – Maliboda-Secret waterfalls Kegalle
Not to be confused with the Kitulgala falls, there’s another Eli Hatha near Maliboda. This one also has multiple cascades, hidden deep in the rainforest. The path is slippery, and you need good shoes, but the reward is pure magic. Each fall feels different—some gentle, some fierce, all alive.
Meeiyan Falls Tunnel-Secret waterfalls Kegalle
Do you know about this place ?One of the most unusual places in the Kegalle District is the Meeiyan Falls Tunnel. Imagine a waterfall where the water doesn’t just fall outside but flows through a natural tunnel in the rock. It’s like nature carved a secret passage.
The water thundered inside the tunnel, echoing like a drum. in Sri Lanka can you find something like this hidden in a quiet corner.”i think it is some difficult. It’s a rare gem, and many travelers miss it because it’s not in the popular guidebooks.
The Countless Falls of Kegalle
Beyond these, there are dozens more—Algama, Baba Pallam, Bandura, Budumaloka, Devagiri, Diya Egirena, Dotulu, Galgediyana, Ganthuna, Handun, Kahanawita, Lahupana, Makulu, Malalpola, Manella, Mannaketi, Minimaru, Nalagana, Olu, Rukmal, Samanala, Theli, Watawala, Yakabendi—the list goes on and on. Each waterfall has its own voice. Some are soft and gentle, whispering down mossy rocks. Others roar with strength, shaking the air.
Do you know?Many guests tell us they never expected to see so many waterfalls in one district.It is imposiblle. Sometimes they plan for just one or two, but end up visiting five or six because each new one feels like a discovery. That’s the beauty of Kegalle—you can spend weeks here and still not see them all.
